“Creating spaces for discovery and emotions has never been this important!“ Leigh Sachwitz, flora&faunavisions
Workshops, talks, maker spaces, an interactive escape room game: Deutsche Telekom’s Magenta Moon initiative has plenty to explore for everyone. At the heart of it all is the event’s dazzling, immersive Magenta Moon Garden. Designed to spark conversation around sustainability, tech and media skills in a playful and intuitive way, this interactive, walkthrough video installation by flora&faunavisions comprises three distinct visual environments (Sunrise Garden, Moon Garden, Magenta Moon) enriched with intuitive, interactive real-time elements.
The enchanting Moon Garden reveals its magic by moonlight: blooms open and glow, accompanied by soothing fragrances. The shifting, but predictable patterns of interactive sculptures and objects satisfy both mind and eye, making the Moon Garden a great refuge from the everyday bustle – a place for regaining strength and feeling safe and in control. Reflecting the move towards hybrid education concepts that mesh digital teaching with real encounters, the hybrid design combines digital and analogue facets in a seamless way. Here, visitors can raise virtual gardens – while smelling, tasting or picking the actual plants on display, experiencing them with all their senses.
Leigh and Daniel, the two directors of flora&faunavisions will give us an explusive tour through the installation. After that, we'll sit down on stage to discuss the idea behind, the process and how they realized it.
21.10.2020, 4:00pm (CEST) => Join online here!
To join on site, you have to sign up for the tour and the discussion separately: => Tour at 4pm => Discussion at 5pm

For this 40th (!!!) Retune Studio Visit, we had the chance to (virtually) visit two exciting studios from LA and Berlin:
Refik Anadol is a media artist and director working in the fields of site-specific public art with parametric data sculpture approach and live audio/visual performance with immersive installation approach. Particularly his works explore the space among digital and physical entities by creating a hybrid relationship between architecture and media arts with machine intelligence.
Quadrature’s artistic research focuses on data and physical experiments. The Berlin based artist duo understands technology as means to read and write realities. Together they pursues a transdisciplinary approach, using various media such as time-based performance and installation as well as classical sculptural and two-dimensional works. For some years, the artists have been working on the methods and stories involved in exploring our world and the cosmos around us.

Berlin-based multi-media artist and design informatics alumni, So Kanno, considers the relationship between human and machine. His work reflects his technical knowledge as well as his insatiable curiosity about the natural world, which allows him to discover new perspectives.
For instance, he translates the synchronization seen in swarming organisms, such as starlings or fireflies, into fluffy-haired robots that communicate via laser beams. They make visible, what nature conceals. Lasermice was recently presented at Ars Electronica festival 2019 in Linz, Austria.
Another exhibition by So Kanno und Takahiro Yang at the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media in 2017 examines how visitors and remote-controlled, mobile objects, like a car, a plant, or a catapult interact with each other in a real environment. Any person around the world with access to the exhibition website could log in to one of the devices. Thus, they come alive, provoking new attitudes towards artificial intelligence.

Our April studio visit will take place at Studio HILO, a place to admire precious weavings and spinning machines.
Studio HILO is a Berlin-based studio for digital textile education. They developed a digital spinning machine pretty much like a 3D-printer: The open-source spinning machine HILO is controlled by a software, which allows users to design and produce their own local yarn.
Studio HILO concentrates not only on developing an open source spinning machine but also a community of designers, researchers, small manufacturers and artists for local yarn manufacturing. The studio offers workshops, trainings and cooperations on sustainable yarn manufacturing and design, open hardware machines and digital spinning processes.
We will give a textile life cycle talk, showcase the HILO software and hardware and give you an introduction on how to spin your own yarn.

Maybe you had a chance to see RLON's Timeline installation at Retune Festival 2018, now you got the chance to meet the makers ✨
As children of a rising global consciousness, the three founders understand design as one way to widen our imagination of the future and to encourage individual and confident constructions of realities: “The future is less a shadow of yesterday than a reflection of now. what we think, is what we get. So let us think sassy, brave and juicy. Let us connect the dots not straight but curved. We believe we can contribute to such a liquid thinking, by crafting interactions and narrating stories that trigger awareness and reward curiosity. With the tools of design and the soul of art. So this is what studio RLON creates: objects and narratives for curious spaces.”
